Heather Mac Rae


Heather Mac Rae is an actress and singer whose career spans 50 years. Her first theatrical appearance was with her parents, Gordon and Sheila Mac Rae, and her siblings, Meredith, Gar, and Bruce, in Annie Get Your Gun at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City.She made her Broadway debut in Here's Where I Belong( the musical version of East of Eden), in the role of Abra. Later in that same year,she joined the original cast of Hair, replacing Diane Keaton in the role of Sheila.Her other Broadway credits include:Dr. Charlotte in Falsettos( a role she created in the original off Broadway production, Faith in Coastal Disturbances, Delores and The Caterer in A Catered Affair. She played Cookie in the national tour of Neil Simon's Rumors.She also did the national tour of Falsettos ending with an LA production at the Doolittle theatre.
Others theatrical credits are: Mary Magdalene in the LA production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Universal City Ampitheatre; Mary in Merrily We Roll Along at theLa Jolla Playhouse.
In 2017, Ms. Mac Rae won an Obie award for her portrayal of Lola in the highly acclaimed Transport Group production of Come Back Little Sheba. This was done in repertory with Picnic, in which she played Mrs. Potts. Both productions were critically acclaimed. She also appeared in Transport Group's production of I Remember Mama. This was a unique version of the beloved play; the cast consisted of 10 women, all over the age of 60, playing all of the roles. Ms. Mac Rae played Nels and Mr. Torkleson. Once again, this extraordinary production was a great success.
Some of her other off Broadway and regional credits are: Falsettoland, Hair: Retrospection, Anne of Green Gables, Emily, Abie's Island Rose,Vanities, Hot L Baltimore, The Dining Room, Children, Oliver, Sabrina Fair, and I Married Wyatt Earp.
She has  guest starred on many TV shows, including: Instinct, The Big C, The Sopranos, Sex in the City, Law and Order SVU, One Life to Live, Frasier, and Clarissa Explains it All.
Her films include: The Namesake, Life With Mickey, Bang the Drum Slowly, A Perfect Couple, and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex.


Ms. Mac Rae has performed in clubs and concert halls throughout the country since 1980.  She won a MAC and Bistro Award for her show, Songs for My Father.( a tribute to her father, Gordon Mac Rae). Recently she created a new show celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the Broadway opening of Hair.
